Scott Clewis is a shareholder and co-managing partner of Clewis Finn. He has established an
impressive record of success litigating catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death cases throughout
Illinois and nationally. Since 2000, he has actively prosecuted numerous complex cases for a combined
settlement and verdict value of over $25 million dollars.
Among Mr. Clewis' many impressive results include: a $ 4.5 million settlement in a Cook County
product liability/wrongful death case involving a defectively manufactured pharmaceutical
product; a $4.1 million-dollar record-breaking jury verdict in a medical malpractice/wrongful
death case co-tried in Lake County, Illinois, involving the misdiagnosis of an abdominal aortic
aneurysm in a 75 year-old man; a $2.6 million settlement in a Kane County medical malpractice
case involving obstetrical negligence resulting in a brain injured infant; a $2.05 million gross
settlement in a medical negligence case co-tried in DuPage County, Illinois, involving the negligent
administration of IV antibiotics resulting in a permanent balance disorder; a $2 million settlement
in a Cook County case against a power company involving negligently maintained power lines
resulting in a man's electrocution; a $1.8 million settlement in a Stephenson County case
involving the misdiagnosis of breast cancer; a $1.2 million settlement in a Cook County
nursing home negligence case involving the development and progression of pressure ulcers
resulting infection to the bone; a $1.1 million settlement in a Cook County case involving
a fatal automobile collision; a $1 million settlement in a Lee County medical malpractice
case involving the misdiagnosis of kidney cancer; a $1 million settlement in a Cook County
medical malpractice case involving surgical negligence; a $730,000 settlement in a Cook County
nursing home negligence case resulting in infected pressure ulcers; and a $500,000 settlement
in a Lake County wrongful death case involving a collision between two motorcycles, to name a few.
In 2003, Chicago Lawyer Magazine and the Law Bulletin Publishing Company named Scott R. Clewis
as one of the "40 Illinois Attorneys Under 40 to Watch in 2003." Recently, Mr. Clewis was invited
to join the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, an organization composed of the most prestigious group
of trial lawyers in the United States. Membership in this organization is limited to only those
attorneys who have won million and multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements.
Mr. Clewis sits on the Board of Managers of the Illinois Trial Lawyer's Association.
He is also a member of several other prominent legal associations, including the American
Association of Justice, the Chicago Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association.
Prior to forming Clewis Finn, Mr. Clewis practiced law at two prominent Chicago-area
law firms. Recently, he was a partner and trial lawyer at the Chicago-based firm of
Levin Perconti. Before that, Mr Clewis spent six years as a trial lawyer at the
prestigious Chicago and Waukegan-based law firm of Salvi Schostok Pritchard,
P.C.. Earlier in his career, Mr. Clewis served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable William J. Hibbler,
United States District Court Judge for the Northern District of Illinois. Before becoming an
attorney, Mr. Clewis worked in the field of court administration serving as the Assistant
Chief Deputy Clerk of the Juvenile Justice Division and Chief Deputy Clerk of the Child Protection
Division in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois. He also worked 5 years as a College
and University administrator and educator.
Mr. Clewis was born and raised on Chicago's Northwest side. He graduated from William P. Grey
Elementary School in 1979 and Gordon Technical High School in 1983. He received his Bachelor
of Arts Degree from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana in 1987. In 1990, he completed
coursework in the Master of Arts Degree program in Education at Loyola University Chicago.
In 1998, he graduated from the Chicago-Kent College of Law.
Mr. Clewis proudly dedicates his legal career to the memory of his Father and Mother,
the late Richard and Elaine Clewis. "My Mother and Father were the most honest, loving,
and beautiful people I have ever known," said Mr. Clewis. "They remain my greatest inspiration."
Mr. Clewis is single and currently resides in Chicago.
